Buddhist Studies and Practice

(Certificate or Master’s—MBSP)): This two-year full time (or indefinite time for part time students) is predominately an on-line distance-learning program with coursework required in all five vidyas—craftsmanship (arts and technology), healing, sound/communication, causality/logic, and the inner realization vidyas. Most courses are in the latter category with required courses in the actual words of the Buddha (sutras), the paths followed by the various sects of Buddhism, the lives of saints, and developing morality (ethical conduct), Bodhichitta, concentration, and wisdom. The focus is on understanding the theories and concepts expressed by the Buddhas and just as importantly, practicing what you learn. Students are expected to attend meditation retreats or intensive seminars on selected dharma discourses of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III at or sponsored by the Holy Vajrasana Temple as part of XFVU’s Seminary Program. At least one class must be taken in each of the other four vidyas, but worldly accomplishments in the craftsmanship, healing or sound vidyas may (with appropriate documentation) be counted for credit.  At least 72 credits are required to earn either a Master or Certificate in Buddhist Studies and Practice.
